The famed Taste of Home Cooking School, attended by nearly 5 million people over the last 20 years, is coming to Victoria! So grab your spatula, as well as family, friends and neighbors, and join us for a fun-filled cooking experience on Thursday, May 21 with the expo opening at 3:00 p.m. and cooking school starting at 6:30 p.m. The Taste of Home Cooking School is one event you don’t want to miss!  

Every year, more than 300 Taste of Home Cooking School events attract up to 300,000 people. With cooking demonstrations by the Taste of Home team, led by Jamie Dunn, attendees will learn seasonal recipes that are perfect for every holiday and occasion, and every skill level. Like all Taste of Home recipes, these recipes were shared by people who cook at home as a way to bring family and friends together, and can be made with readily available ingredients to create memorable meal moments. Plus, learn tips and tricks that will help you save time and make the most of your cooking experience. It’s no wonder why 50 percent of Cooking School attendees return annually, and one in ten seek out more than one Cooking School each year.    

Come early to the show to visit booths hosted by local vendors. You’ll receive a gift bag with coupons and samples, and have the opportunity to register for door prizes and even win the dishes prepared on stage during the show!

2015 Featured Chefs & Cooking Demos

Meet a couple of our chefs who will be cooking up some delicious meals and teaching you some new recipes at the show this year!


Jamie Dunn

Jamie Dunn will return again as the main event Culinary Specialist for the Taste of Home Cooking School. At the May 21st event, Jamie will demonstrate 10 new Taste of Home recipes and share tips and tricks she uses in her kitchen. The main show starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Victoria Community Center dome, but come early at 3:00 p.m. to watch great cooking demostrations by area chefs and visit with the many vendors in both the dome and the annex.

Jamie graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics Education and Community Service. She previously worked as a Culinary Instructor for Tulsa Technology and Bama Cooking School and as a High School Home Economics Teacher. Jamie currently resides in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area with her husband and 3 children and enjoys vegetable gardening, canning, cake decorating and snow skiing.


Darian Hewitt, Hands-On Chef and 2015 Taste of Home Emcee

Darian is a firm believer that anyone can cook.  He started teaching around Texas in 2002 and has helped extend the repertoire of many home cooks with his creative and thorough hands-on approach to cooking.  Whether it's homemade pasta, bread, grilling or desserts, his students walk away with the confidence that they can do it and they can do it with local Texan ingredients!  Join Darian as he combines some state specialties - Texas Shrimp and Texas Orange Marmalade for a "Taste of Texas Cooking".

Sarah, VIP Chef for the 2015 Taste of Home Show

Sarah Grueneberg, 15-year industry veteran and Bravo TV’s “Top Chef” standout, is now Executive Chef and co-owner of Monteverde restaurant, an authentic yet modern Italian restaurant that is soon to be open in Chicago’s lauded West Loop.

Raised in Houston, Texas, Grueneberg loved spending time with her grandparents, cooking and baking dishes that showcased her family’s German heritage. In 2001, she earned her Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts from the Art Institute of Houston. Grueneberg got her first taste of the industry as a line cook at Brennan’s of Houston, where she quickly became the restaurant’s then youngest-ever sous chef at 22.

The defining moment in Grueneberg’s career came in 2005, when she moved Chicago to work at Spiaggia under Chef Tony Mantuano. She began as line cook and, in 2010, was named Executive Chef, earning prestigious accolades throughout her tenure there. She has since gained a true love of Italian cuisine and culture, spending much time training in and touring the food-centric regions of Italy. 

In 2011, Grueneberg’s talent quickly gained national and international acclaim through her work on Bravo’s reality show, “Top Chef: Texas”, where she finished as a finalist and most recently appeared as an all-star aboard Top Chef at Sea – traveling through France & Iberian Peninsula. 

Grueneberg left Spiaggia in late 2013 to serve as a chef/consultant for Epic Food Concepts in Naples, Florida. Now she is busy conceptualizing her forthcoming Italian restaurant, Monteverde, with business partner Meg Sahs.

Dorothy Huang, Chinese Cooking Master

Be prepared to be wowed by chef Dorothy, a premier teacher of Chinese cooking for over 25 years! Visit her Cooking Depot station in the Community Center dome and learn how you can embrace Chinese cooking in your home. With her background in dietetics and her cooking experience, you’ll learn more about how Chinese food can provide an ideal combination of nutritional value, easy preparation, and wonderful flavors!

Chef Mike Morphew, chef extraordinaire

During his vast culinary career, Chef Mike was lucky enough to be invited to cook at Buckingham Palace. Join us for his wonderful insight about life behind the scenes in the kitchen of Buckingham Palace and experience some of the foods enjoyed by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth and the Royal family! Chef Mike will demonstrate cooking techniques as well as answer your questions. 

Susan Coppedge, Food Enthusiast

Susan believes that cooking and entertaining should be an expression of your personality - creative, artistic and most of all fun! She first started cooking in 1980 at The Stockpot in her home town of Longview, Texas. She’s hosted many famous chefs, such as Julia Child, Simone Beck, Jacques Pepin and Wolfgang Puck! She’ll share her classic training knowledge with Taste of Home show attendees.
